African Gray Parrots By Laura Ingalls African Gray parrots make wonderful pets. Researcher Irene Pepper has shown that African Gray parrots have the intelligence of a five-year old child. These bird can learn to talk and sound just like a human voice. I have an African Gray parrot. It has learned over 100 words and dozens of sentences. My parrot knows all my dogs’ names, names of foods, commands and much more. The parrot sounds just like me. It has fooled my husband into thinking I was calling for him. Julio barks like a dog and even calls for the dogs when he wants entertained. Julio wishes me “good night” when I turn out the lights at night. In the morning when I walk by his cage he offers me a “good morning”. These parrots can live to be over 90-years of age and make wonderful companions.
