"Baby": My Lilac Crowned Amazon Parrot
The affectionate and loyal nature of the Lilac Crowned Amazon parrot, make this bird a wonderful pet. Lilac Crowned Amazons have beautiful green colored feathers with a crown of purple and red on top of their heads. They have a very sweet disposition and can live to be fifty years of age. These parrots are native to Mexico and Central and South America. These parrots are capable of learning a large vocabulary. They can mimic all kinds of sounds and are the best talkers, next to the African Grey parrot. My Lilac Crowned Amazon was a parrot that I hand-raised. He is a very playful, energetic and devoted companion. He has escaped on two occasions. The first time he was gone about a month. I placed a lost and found ad in the newspaper. Some very nice people called me to say they had found him. I had already given up on every finding him again. The couple said I would have to identify the parrot before they would return him to me. When I entered their apartment to see if it was my bird, there was no question “Baby” was mine. When he saw me and heard my voice, he started calling out to me laughing, and dancing in his cage. The nice couple were amazed and said the absolutely knew he was mine after his playful display. “Baby” laughs exactly as I do. The second time he escaped, a neighbor about three houses away from me called to ask if I had lost a parrot. My neighbor had spotted “Baby” in his front yard among the quail, doves and sparrows eating grain that he puts out for the birds every day. I hurriedly walked over to his home. Upon my arrival my parrot saw me and started his loud, laughing. I picked him up my little escape and he laughed all the way home. |
